This page has a small collection of interesting and informative videos for free download.

Please note that any music videos will be on the music page.

the best way to download these videos is usually to right-click on the link (either the picture or the title) and choose 'save target as...'.

Underneath each video you'll see a link marked '(player)'. This is in case you download the file and find that you don't have a program which can play it. If that happens, click the 'player' link for that video, and it'll take you to the page of a free program which can play the file. However most of the time you'll find that you don't have this problem and don't have to use this link.

Please note that videos are usually pretty big files, and will take a while to download.

Despotism

(player)
Made in 1946, this documentary measures how a society ranks on a spectrum stretching from democracy to despotism. Explains how societies and nations can be measured by the degree that power is concentrated and respect for the individual is restricted. You'll be surprised how relevant it seems - you keep thinking of examples from today that could be in the film. (24.3 meg)

The Shock Doctrine

(player)
Short film by Alfonso Cuarón (Children of Men) and Naomi Klein, summarising Naomi Klein's book of the same name. The book and film argue that the people in power use disasters, whether natural or man-made, to push through unpopular policies that would normally be resisted. The film can be downloaded in Windows Media format as well as .mov, and with better picture quality, here. The site also has lots of the original material that the book was based on. (19 meg)

American Police Taser A Woman

(player)
A Pittsburgh police officer uses a taser on a young woman. A taser is a weapon that fires an (occasionally fatal) electric charge. Tasers are meant to used for self-defence - however the woman appears to be already restrained. Critics of tasers say they can be used as punishment or torture devices, particularly since they don't leave any marks. This video seems to confirm this suspicion. For more information, see this Wikipedia article. (4.71 meg)

Crack the CIA

(player)
Bad point first: someone should've told the makers of this video that they were doing a documentary, not a rock video. Seems to use every filter and effect they had available. However, the style problems shouldn't overshadow the very important information about alleged links between the US government and organised crime. (32 meg)

COINTELPRO: The FBI's War on Black America

(player)
This video looks at the COINTELPRO (Counter-Intelligence and Propaganda) program, which was carried on in secret by the American government against groups like the Black Panthers and Martin Luther King. After this video was made, Pratt was found innocent and released from jail. (35.2 meg)

The United States military deliberately attacked and destroyed primarily residential neighborhoods, killing an estimated 3 to 4 thousand people in the process. Narrated by Elizabeth Montgomery. (23.7 meg)
